Japan

a matter of perspective

Story by Tony J. November 27th, 2017

It's apparent that Tokyo is a place of the new and the old.

We landed on a weekday. After a quick nap we went out.

IMG_3556.JPG

Businessmen waited to cross at Akihabara, while trucks whistled by.

IMG_3545.png

A refreshing beverage, you don't say.

IMG_3580.jpg

We set our sights on Nikko, a town nested in the mountains.

IMG_3607.jpg

Stopping at the foot of the mountain for a quick bite.

IMG_3921.JPG

Unforeseen adventures on the subsequent hike.

IMG_3953.JPG

The falls were a sight to behold.

IMG_3684.jpg

Followed by the fall were the plains.

IMG_3699.jpg

They said this was an ancient battle ground. I can see why.

IMG_7677.JPG

Bird watchers found their place of tranquility and peace.

IMG_3704.jpg

The next day. Back in Tokyo.

Endless buildings behold us.

IMG_3764.JPG

Urban jungle connected by train network.

The perspectives at the Skytree were incredible.

IMG_3793.jpg

Conveyer bet Sushi. I was surprised by the amount of dialogue the chefs had with the patrons.

IMG_3980.JPG
IMG_3981.JPG

It was late. The trains were less packed.

IMG_3982.jpg

The next day, Shibuya crossing. Ready, set, go.

Next, temple in Tokyo.

IMG_3877.jpg

We arrived at a temple. The sun was setting.

IMG_3890.JPG

Nested in this metropolitan, the future peered into the past.

Nested in this metropolitan, the future peered into the past.

IMG_3900.jpg

Make your wishes here. I think that's what it means.

IMG_3894.jpg

Next. To Yokohama - ramen museum. A place of mixed feelings - as it reflected Japan's imperial past.

Arashiyama. A breath of fresh air.

IMG_4032.jpg

Running through the woods was fun.

Next up: Hot Springs.

IMG_4025.JPG
IMG_4113.jpg

We took a detour to watch Sumo in a Japanese home turned into a restaurant.

IMG_4139.JPG

The small hot spring town was quiet.

IMG_7712.jpg

We walked back as the sky turned pink.

IMG_8614.JPG

Back at our lodging, it was already dark.

IMG_4056.JPG

The next morning, a traditional breakfast awaited us.

IMG_4064.jpg

Today we're about to see some snow monkeys.

IMG_4252.JPG

The monkeys are like humans.

IMG_4078.JPG

They seem pretty relaxed.

IMG_4339.JPG
IMG_4343.JPG

A quick bite in the train station.

IMG_4009.JPG

After the train we got onto a bus that took us to a small town in the mountains.

We hiked a bit and went forth to the mountains.

PANO_20170528_100237.jpg

Mount Yarigatake was no joke.

IMG_20170528_134622.jpg

The 3,180m (10,430 ft) high peak was not an easy feat, for the four of us at least.

I had to cut out because foot and leg pains.

IMG_4300.JPG

Hong took this epic shot in the moring.

A cabin that was suppose to be closed, that housed the four.

IMG_20170529_073911.jpg

The journey own was relatively easy.

IMG_4378.JPG

To replenish ourselves, meat over fire seemed to be the only way.

Exhausted, we set out to our next destination in the morning.

After a boat ride, we approached a small island.

IMG_4931.jpg
IMG_4960.JPG

The island was full of deers.

This deer was determined to enjoy the sunbathe no matter how the girl pushed its head.

How stubborn :)

IMG_4952.jpg

Oh hi there.

Didn't want to disturb your nap there.

IMG_4959.JPG

After the island, we moved onto our next destination.

This noodle was delicious.

IMG_20170531_144225.jpg

Little did we know, more amazing vegetarian dishes awaited us on the mountain.

I was too tired to take more photos at the monastery. It was really cool though.

IMG_6663.JPG

Japan. It was an amazing first trip!

I will be back.
